Rowan W., Veterinary Assistant
Rowan joined TruVet in July 2025 as a veterinary assistant, bringing with her a warm Aloha spirit from her home state of Hawaii. Her career in animal care began as a dog trainer, and she quickly expanded her skills through 4.5 years in a general practice that also handled urgent care and surgery. From there, she dove into the fast-paced world of emergency and critical care for 1.5 years, because when it comes to helping animals, Rowan doesn’t shy away from a challenge.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology, and is currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician program on her path to becoming an RVT. She’s Fear Free Certified, trained in Recover CPR through VCA, and has completed anesthesia and ProHeart 12 certifications. Rowan’s dedication extends beyond the clinic, she’s volunteered on a ranch caring for horses, pigs, goats, and alpacas, and even served as a traveling veterinary assistant to rural Maui communities (Hana), providing general care and sedated procedures to pets in need.
When she’s not in scrubs, Rowan loves diving, swimming, hiking, surfing, and training her animals. She misses the beaches of Hawaii but brings that laid-back island energy to everything she does. A former college cheerleader and lifelong dancer (14 years and counting), she knows how to keep spirits high, even in a busy clinic.
At home, Rowan’s life is full of fur and personality. She and her husband, Rilee, share their home with Ruby, a wise 9-year-old tabby rescue; Aila, a spirited 2-year-old Doberman; Kona, a gentle 10-year-old pit bull mix rescue; Shoutz, a curious 3-year-old Japanese bobtail rescue; Peridot, a sweet 2-year-old domestic shorthair rescue; and Smokey, a playful 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog who keeps everyone on their toes.
Rowan says the most inspiring part of the work she does is that she enjoys the healing aspect of her job and aspires to provide excellent and compassionate care to all the animals. She is particularly dedicated to creating a Fear-Free and comfortable environment for those animals with reactivity or aggression.
